BMW made a mess of MG Rover overall, but one part of that debacle that BMW did do well with was MINI. It created a genre that others have copied, with varying success. New variants have kept interest up, although some seem somewhat contrived. It will be interesting to see how the new van model goes (see below). The yet to be released Paceman (to be built in the Netherlands) is below that.
As for the list below, most of the decreases are from Europe understandably. Import phobic Brazil curtailed progressive growth with higher duty. Hong Kong is probably already in the China figure, but in case not, I included it for added interest. Mentioning China, how long before they move into third? Korea made the top 10 for the first time, and Russians finally seem to be 'getting it' as do the Israelis.
The first three columns show 2010 to 2012 ranking, the second column in from the right is increase or decrease, and the extreme right shows market share for the major brands. The Middle East is a region, not a country. However, that is how I got the data.
