One possible issue is some sources of statistics think it improper that anyone else do anything with it. There are many blogs and websites doing what this blog does and maybe some don't like that. If it is an association that has subscribing car importers, they may pressure the association to stop releasing it. I noticed OICA release less production data for German brands this year.
So the point is it come to pass that the openness that we have enjoyed may diminish. There will still be statistics out there but perhaps not the variety. I would like to commend all associations that were open and the nation represented below shows who they are. I put Australia at the bottom to show that even a nation that some years ago released good basic data has for some time now revealed nothing. You can do better FCAI, as can some others I haven't mentioned.
Openness is good so let's embrace it. Free is good, like this site and all articles within. Not all things can be free though - it is a commercial world - but commercialism with balance. Charge for what you must, but the rest should made freely available.
