A new accusation from the US Environmental Protection Agency that the 3 litre diesel engine fitted to the 2014 Volkswagen Touareg, the 2015 Porsche Cayenne, and the 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L, and Q5 has also been rigged. VW has denied the latest allegation about the engine, developed by Audi.

VW is sure this is incorrect but if proven to be true, shows how difficult it is to detect cheating devices. It would also be a bigger blow to VW credibility if proven, although affecting far fewer vehicles. It would make everyone wonder just how far this has gone and what other engines are affected. VW's credibility would be shot. Added to that is the new CEO Matthias Mueller came from Porsche so it wouldn't be a good look if this does prove true, although he may be innocent in terms of any knowledge about it.

That said, we mustn't put the cart before the horse. This hasn't been proven yet.

In another revelation, Volkswagen said it had uncovered what it described as "inconsistencies" when determining carbon dioxide emission levels, affecting something like 800,000 cars. 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 litre diesels built in 2012 and later are affected. It may be a case in this instance of representation than a device fitted.

Now Porsche Engine Implicated!
