Production rose nearly 500,000 from 1997 to 2007, so things were
improving for the 'double chevron' brand. New models had done their job
and the future looked rosy. Unfortunately the economic downturn upset
things at the end of the decade, but even so production was still quite
strong by 2009.
After the production chart, new models will be mentioned briefly.

C4/C4 Picasso: This small car replaced the Xsara and is similar to the Peugeot 308. It came as a 3-door coupé, 4-door car, 5-door hatchback and MPV (C4 Picasso). It was considered a good all round car and sold very well.
C3/C3 Picasso: The mini car which took over from the Saxo was a either 5-door hatch, 2-door convertible or - from 2009 - an MPV (C3 Picasso). The hatch and convertible had quality issues but sales were strong.
C1: It was made alongside the Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo to save on costs. Just as well as sales were at best modest. This tiny car was cheap to run and fun to drive but earlier models had reliability problems.
C2: Like the C3 it replaced the Saxo too, but a bit smaller so maybe more a new AX model. While inexpensive to run, I would question it's popularity as the sales figures seem disappointing.
Nemo: Also called the Peugeot Bipper and Fiat Qubo, it was built in Turkey. The leisure model of its van derivative was cute and quite roomy, although noisy at higher speeds general ride reflecting its van origins.
C8: As a large MPV, it replaced the Evasion and four brand brands used it, this time with more variance between them. It was larger sold in better numbers than its predecessor.
C-Crosser: A Mitsubishi Outlander supplied to fill a gap in the range, it never really worked with the Citroën logo.
DS3: It barely arrived for the period here considered, replacing the C2, but with more refinement. The DS range is to be above the standard Citroën and the car was rated highly. Whether the DS range - as it grows - can succeed taking on more premium cars will be interesting.
Summary: A better decade for Citroën and it needed to be. Many more models and a real effort make it happen was apparent. Keeping it going was now the challenge.
Other years: 1945-59, 1960-69, 1970-79, 1980-89, 1990-99.

The C4 Picasso for the practically minded |

C1: It was made alongside the Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo to save on costs. Just as well as sales were at best modest. This tiny car was cheap to run and fun to drive but earlier models had reliability problems.
The C2 model a fun city car |
C2: Like the C3 it replaced the Saxo too, but a bit smaller so maybe more a new AX model. While inexpensive to run, I would question it's popularity as the sales figures seem disappointing.
Nemo: Also called the Peugeot Bipper and Fiat Qubo, it was built in Turkey. The leisure model of its van derivative was cute and quite roomy, although noisy at higher speeds general ride reflecting its van origins.

The classy DS3. No, I don't have her number |
DS3: It barely arrived for the period here considered, replacing the C2, but with more refinement. The DS range is to be above the standard Citroën and the car was rated highly. Whether the DS range - as it grows - can succeed taking on more premium cars will be interesting.
