In 2003, this was a French car paradise. With a strong French speaking community I assume playing a part, six of the top eight models were from that nation. The Megane II was European car of the year in 2003.

Second placed 206 was five years old by this time but still selling strongly. The 2002 car of the year - the 307 - came in third.

Nearly 459,000 cars were sold in Belgium in 2003, which had dropped from a peak of slightly over 515,000 in 2000. From 2004, sales climbed again until 2008 when 536,000.

The market in Belgium is very European in taste, with cars designed for Europe clearly appealing to this car mad nation.
