The fact that vehicles are made in Portugal may surprise many. It isn't a huge industry but no doubt valued by the country. Looking back many years the production numbers have been relatively consistent. From 1996 to 2006 was the best period when total vehicle production exceeded 200,000 units each of those years.
Car: The VW Group is the main manufacturer with both VW and SEAT accounting for 87% of volume. VW made the Sharan, Eos and Scirocco models, SEAT the Alhambra. The Eos will come to an end in mid 2015 on weak demand for convertible cars. PSA make the Berlingo and Partner models. Some are viewed as c ars and others LCVs (see utility).
Utility: Apart from the PSA production mentioned above, Mitsubishi Fuso make the Canter light truck and Toyota made the Dyna light truck. Exports of the Dyna ended in 2014, but the Landcruiser LC70 is being added to become the export vehicle instead.
