I must say that Anfavea does a fine job of providing data for the public. If only the industry was as efficient. It relies heavily on protection provided through import duties to succeed. Because of that, most of the vehicles made are for domestic use. This exposes it to economic fluctuations of Brazil, without other markets to counterbalance the ups and downs that is part of any national market. In 2014, Brazil had a downturn and that refected in a 15% fall in both passenger car and utility vehicle production.

Cars: VW contributed 20% of all cars made in Brazil, but with a 22% decline in production volume it hurt more than most others did. All the top five producers failed to increase their share of the total. In contrast, all of the Asian car makers (in yellow) increased or in Honda's case bettered the the -15% figure for total production. Mercedes figures ceased to be published in 2010 but the 'other' amount would include more than just them.

Commercial vehicle: Production was more unpredictable by make but still the same percentage decrease. Recently Anfavea redefined what constituted a car or utility vehicle and a shift in the figures moved numbers toward the car side. This had the effect of messing up all my historical data. I guess if it makes things more accurate then worth doing the exercise. Three makes stopped appearing in the CV figures, but the decrease in the 'other' figure since that time indicates they aren't doing as well as they were.
