Asia Car Production By Nation : 2014-15

Total production was up 2.1% to 39,182,784. That is a lot of cars. Nearly 54% were made in China, a nation that forces everyone to make cars there through high import tariffs. Mind you, that is the way things are done in Asia. It's all about trade surplus. The West tolerates it so I won't fret.

Japan made just over eight million cars in 1998, more than 2015. Taiwan made the same number of cars in 1998. In contrast, China made just over half a million cars in 1999 and contributed less than 5% of Asian production volume. 43% of all cars made globally are made in this region (31% in 1999).

At the bottom of the chart, you will notice double counts. This happens when a car has sizable contributions from two sources and it comes down to which nation should count it as their manufactured vehicle. Sometimes both nations are considered the producer and it becomes a double count. In this case, double counts are for Asia as a whole, without identifying the nation. It represents just 0.5% of total production in this instance.
