With just over 4.5 million people, it is the eighth largest of the nine regions and the second lowest population density at 290 people per square kilometre (England average 407). It has the sixth highest income average of £25,000 (£27,500). EM has 8.6% of the population and 9.2% of car sales. Car sales were up 5.7% (6.3%) in the region, very similar to the average.

Toyota have a car plant at Burnaston, Derbyshire. This is located at the top left of the region.

Winners: Vauxhall sales grew 25.6% for 17.2% of sales in this region (national average 10.2%).  VW is quite popular brand with 10.1% (6.4%) and 2nd (4th). Kia took 4.1% (3.0%).

Losers: Audi could only muster 4.8% (6.3%) and BMW 3.8% (6.4%) for 9th place (4th). Nissan secured a disappointing 4.6% (5.8%) but at least the 31% increase is sorting that out.
