VW not on the Up! in Luxembourg, but still leading |
Luxembourg has a very even sales pattern for a small nation. Between 2006 and 2008, it just got past 50,000 sales but hasn't done so since. It didn't experience the crash that other countries did after 2008, just a slight, general decline. In fact, this the poorest year for sales since that peak period and the lowest since 2003. This at a time when European nations generally are improving on the sales front.
Renault was deposed by VW as the best selling brand in 2006, the latter has been top ever since. The popularity of premium marques testifies to the affluence of the duchy. Total car sales fell 6.3%, while VW decreased nearly 10%. BMW fared well and closed the gap from 1,625 to just 335.
In the data provided, there is an entry for Land Rover, another for Jaguar and still another for JLR. It seems that eventually they will all be under JLR. For now I have added LR and JLR as LR would be the major contributor to JLR. My suspicion is heightened by the low Jaguar sales figure. I asked Statistiques Luxembourg about it and they saw ma point but they simply got the data from another source so referred me there. I wrote to the other source and they just didn't get what I meant. Oh well.
Yellow is decrease in excess of the total market, blue also represents a fall in sales, but less than the -6.3% total. Green is for those who defied the trend and actually went up in sales.
