Has President Putin traded up to the new Lada Vesta?

In 2012, over 2.9 million cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia., in 2015 1.6 million*. With sales down nearly 36% from 2014 and 47% in December '15, the economy must be in some trouble. So when will it be sorted? I guess political decisions will determine that.

Only six brands managed an increase and was surprised that any did. Three of them have recently entered the market so that would account for them. Lexus and Porsche both jumped seven places on small increases, testament to the carnage. On the other hand, Chevrolet crashed about 60%, Opel 74%, Peugeot 73%, Ssangyong and Great Wall nudging -80%.

Some car makers have done much better than others. Being new to the market and releasing new models helped some. Assembling cars in the country must lessen the effect of the depreciating rouble, which reached an all time low against the dollar late 2015. Some car companies may accept the challenging situation, hoping things will turn around soon and they will be well placed to benefit then.
