It would be hard to imagine a more bizarre situation. They have oil but no money. The economy is a mess and no one is tackling it. It is hard for car assemblers to assemble cars as the country cannot afford to pay for the parts to make them. From making over 170,000 cars in 2007, it is now down to less than 20,000 and falling. Welcome to Venezuela.
Car: I guess Mitsubishi won because it managed to get enough parts to screw more cars together than anyone else. Workers are turning up with little to assemble. To show what I mean, in the lists below green shading shows increase and yellow decrease (for both lists).

Utility: Essential for moving around goods, the shortage of such vehicles must be difficult for businesses. Patching up older ones - if parts can be obtained - the only option for many.

Summary: Unless something drastic happens soon, surely the assembly of vehicles in Venezuela will cease. Sad to see because when an economy is this low, suffering occurs. Of course the recent reduction in oil prices won't have helped, but the problems here go much deeper than that.
