Car sales took quite a hit in 2011 and now this is the 4th consecutive year of decrease so things are a bit difficult.
Car maker Zastava became FAS in 2009 (Fiat Automobili Srbija), which
makes an obsolete Fiat Punto car. Fiat sales then basically stopped in
2010, but picked up again this year. FAS sales took off for a couple of
years, but have fallen badly in 2011, perhaps due to the ending of a
government sponsored subsidy scheme.
As to why Fiat went and returned, I'm not sure.
