This isn't the easiest market to get data for but I just found this. It is difficult to compare year to year as the source for me always changes and there are differences in numbers from one place to another. They are as accurate as possible.

Sales in the mid noughties were in much higher than now (200,000k plus one source shows that anyway) but things have levelled off now in the 55,000 area. Suzuki used to be the top brand for many years but fell away in 2010, had a horror '11 but came back in somewhat in '12. Opel took over the top of the list in 2012 from temporary caretaker Ford.

The first two columns show 2011 and 2012 ranking, the second column in from the right is increase or decrease, and the extreme right shows market share.

Car Sales Hungary: 2012

The GM Opel Astra is popular here, both the new and an older model that still sells here. I like the idea of keeping a cheaper older version going if it still has desirability - and this one clearly does. Other brands don't want to associate their car make with older offerings. Renault instead have budget brand Dacia and other companies are considering following Renaults lead. Nissan are to revive Datsun as a low price make in selected markets.

European brands dominate, although no VWs in the top 10 in a European market is a rare sight. As always in Europe the Qashqai is strong and even the smaller Juke is going OK. Suzuki make cars here, which helps them obviously. Toyota have some work to do.
