Number one yet again

Toyota became the number one brand in 2003 and has been there ever since. However, this is its lowest market share for Toyota since 1997, as sales spread across more brands. Mazda has been has slowly but surely been improving it's position and has now reached 2nd for the first time ever.

GM Holden was last 3rd in 1997 and I don't know if and when it was ever lower than that. It just managed to stave off Hyundai in 2015 but one suspects it's only a matter of time....Continuing the theme, when was Ford ever this low? Things are changing in Australia. The big cars that kept brands like Holden and Ford ahead are losing out to SUV types of vehicles.

I have coloured the chart to the nation or region the brand is associated with.
