Hyundai Global Sales By Model: 2016

I have to say that car manufacturers are an over cautious lot. For some, they release little about their company's situation through the year. Hyundai give out a good supply of data, for which they deserve commendation.

Hyundai spun off two models from their range to create the Genesis premium marque. I can see why they would do that. It doesn't work when you have standard and premium cars sharing the same logo. By establishing Genesis as up market and the Hyundai brand for mainstream models, there is a clear line of differentiation.

The model that was called a Hyundai Genesis is now the Genesis G80 and another one named the Equus becomes the G90 (EQ900 in Korea). To confuse matters, there is a Genesis Coupé sports car that will not be part of the Genesis brand. In fact, the next model will have a different name to avoid confusion.

As for the Hyundai side of things, the Avante/Elantra model is the best selling, followed by the fast improving Tuscon. The Verna/Accent/Solaris etc. dropped from first to third this year. The only new model was the Inoniq mid-sized electric hatchback.
