Taiwan has a protected car market to encourage local assembly. The result of that is a handful of manufacturers dominate domestic sales. There seems little or no exporting, so the volumes aren't that large. I cannot be that efficient but it provides local employment. Although production was down, that was due to a very good 2014.
Car: Toyota has nearly 60% of the volume, only bettered by 2014. The Big T has been the largest manufacturer of cars since 2001, when it took over from Nissan. The Corolla model accounts for 125,000 units.
Nissan has been 2nd every year since 2009. No one model stands out numerically but the Tiida is first, with 12,400 made. Honda managed an increase in production with the CR-V best with 12,000 in number. Luxgen is a local brand, made by the same company that assembles Nissan cars. It has a MPV, SUV and sedan model. They are also made in China.

Ford mainly makes the Focus model, Mitsubishi the Outlander and Mazda just the 5 MPV. Kia has just started with mainly the Carens assembled.
