Despite a useful increase for the year, sales are still down a long way from the heady days in 2008 when over 88,000 cars were sold; 2010 proving to be an annus horribilis.
Opel lost its top spot to VW, with a drastic swing in fortunes for each brand. The overall market was volatile generally.

My guess: A modest gain at best for 2012

Car Sales Croatia: 2011

A car market down 24.5% is the Croatian one, a common result in 2012 for many Euro nations. Opel was the top brand just two years ago in 2010, having been in that position since 2004 when it took over from Renault. This year Opel slipped a place to 3rd and Renault two places to 5th. The two Korean brands yet again did well, I really don't think they are that good.

Overall looking at the chart, it is somewhat erratic as to how car brands fared. The first two columns show 2011 and 2012 ranking, the second column in from the right is increase or decrease, and the extreme right shows market share for the major brands.

Car Sales Croatia: 2012

Opel did well in Croatia with the Astra and Corsa models. As top brand, VW as expected had four in the top 20. Manly European with a smattering of Korean models would sum up the chart. Being a small market, the numbers are modest though. I suspect Astra may not be top in 2013.

Car Sales Croatia By Model: 2012

Dubrovnik - A well known town of much prettiness

Over 88,000 cars were sold in Croatia in 2008, but it would be a long time since only 27,000 were in 2013.
If times are tight, a new car shouldn't be on the shopping list. So being fiscally cautious is practical. The nation may have entered the EU July 1st 2013, but that isn't expected to do much for now at least.

VW took the lead off long time top brand Opel three years ago and has gone about consolidating that position. Chevrolet continued its decline from it's all time high of 4th in 2010. The blue shaded brands managed at least market share gain, despite lower sales.

VW Polo 2nd in Croatia this year and last

Europe dominates the model chart for this nation, with Korea putting up a good showing too. VW  and GM Opel are the biggest brands, so between them take seven of the top 20 places.
