Toyota increased its lead in 2015

Sales were up for the third consecutive year to nearly 76,000 units. However, last decade sales were always well over 200,000 and peaked at 290k a couple of times. Back then all the top selling brands were well into the tens of thousands, but 2011 was the last time any importer passed the five digit mark. It sounds gloomy, but at least things are on the up.

Toyota enjoyed its third year at the summit. VW stumbled slightly, enough for Nissan to nearly overtake them. It's 1992 since Nissan was ranked higher. Peugeot got tired of being an 'also ran' and leaped into the top five. Difficult conditions can lead to more volatile movements.

Ford, Hyundai and Škoda fell back in the rankings, the latter two experiencing sharp falls percentage-wise. Mazda pulled out altogether in 2013, a surprise as it's not often a larger brands walks away. It's not an easy market to be in. On a happier note, the Renegade is proving very popular for Jeep, with yet another huge increase, 1234% to be precise.
