Sales down 29% looks bad but compared to recent history, the 650,000 plus sales are still solid. What has happened here of late is that duties on imported cars have gone up and that causes big fluctuations in sales. It must be frustrating to be establishing a brand, only to have the rug pulled from under you by the stroke of a pen.

An example is Suzuki, that sold 7,350 cars in 2010, 2,800 ('11), 20 ('12) and 1 ('13). They are back with 134 sales in 2014, but how difficult for manufacturer, importer and dealers, not to mention the public. Obviously the government doesn't want the trade balance to blow out in a negative way.

Some of the smaller brands have taken a big hit in sales as you look down the chart. If you don't make cars in the region, it's a risk entering the market.
