Over 73,000 Land Rovers have been sold here in the past seventeen years. Considering the size of the premium market, LR is a very successful marque in these parts.
Defender: It was assembled in Brazil and sold in good numbers. That commenced in 1998 and concluded at the end of 2005. Thereafter sales went down and remained steady but limited.
Range Rover: The luxury end of the Land Rover model line up has never been a big seller. Unfortunately for five years, data was combined with the Range Rover Sport.
Freelander: Over 18,000 were sold in Brazil. It was the most popular model from 2005 until 2011.
RR Sport: It arrived in 2007 and was soon hit by an economic downturn. It also fell away in 2012, but the series two RRS reinvigorated sales.
Discovery: Always a strong model in Brazil, its ruggedness no doubt its appeal.
Discovery Sport: Just arrived but immediately hit a sweet spot with locals. The plan is to make them at a plant in Itatiaia, circa Rio De Janeiro for 2017.
Evoque: Brazilians obviously love style and this car has it in abundance. It will assembled in Brazil at the same plant mentioned above, but from early to mid 2016.
Summary: With local production kicking off, one would suspect sales will rise. The reality is the nation is for now in a financial low so predictions would be impractical. However, the appreciation Brazilians for Land Rover vehicles will ensure the marque will continue to do well.
