In the final in the series of production for Renault by model, another
twist occurred for the period '00-'09. This time volume fell from 2.1
million in 2000 to 1.7 million by 2009, reversing the previous decade.
The reason was the big selling models were down in sales and new models
introduced were not big in volume. It's that simple. Almost all of the
gain of the 90's had been lost.
But it wasn't all doom and gloom because things were being reshaped to improve profitability. Dacia models were being introduced, badged as Renault cars in many markets, and that was starting to bear fruit. Older models that used to linger around were being culled, as Dacia models would be more cost effective than they were. The new models introduced in this period are mentioned below the production chart.

Vel Satis: It was a 5 door executive hatchback, which was thinking outside the square. Annual production of 50,000 units was hoped for, but barely that many were sold in total. It proved a costly mistake in the end.
Modus: Manufactured in Spain, this mini MPV was a flop. The idea was good, but a small boot wasn't. Sometimes you have to try things.
Logan: It is a small family car initially released in 2004 as a
Dacia from Romania and since then made in factories around the world
with a Renault logo on it (for emerging nations). It has proved
successful.
Sandero: Based on the Logan platform, this super mini car has been another winner for Renault, just as the Logan mentioned above.
Koléos: Designed by Renault and developed by Nissan, the Koléos was another failure. Unusual because the SUV type of vehicle is ever more popular and the car itself seemed not too bad.
Fluence: A medium sized four door saloon car related to the Mégane, just released as this period ended. It is aimed at selected markets only.
Summary: A decade that promised much but faltered. Cheap and cheerful Dacias sold as Renaults the only real highlight.
